Deriving its name from the Spanish Pedro Ximenez (PX) sherry casks in which it is finished it is a single malt Irish whiskey made from 100% malted barley. The whiskey undergoes a meticulous aging process, initially matured in ex-bourbon barrels, before being finished for nine months in PX sherry casks, imparting a distinctive depth of flavour.

Boann Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey Madeira – A Gold Medal Winner

Soon after launching a trio of single pot still whiskeys last year, Boann’s Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey Madeira won gold at the Irish Whiskey Awards 2024 in the New Irish Whiskey category.

For this release, Boann accessed two-decade-old vintage casks from the famous Madeira house, Justino’s, all of which were formerly 350-litre Cognac casks made from French oak.

Aged for nearly five years, its initial maturation took place in charred ex-bourbon barrels, followed by finishing in the premium vintage Madeira casks, bringing exceptional depth and complexity to the whiskey.

The bottle features a textured surface that evokes water, a vital ingredient in whiskey-making. This design is a nod to the flowing waters of the Boyne River and the North Atlantic Ocean surrounding the Madeira Islands.
