Port House Cava is a cosy candle lit hidden gem, that takes residency within a converted townhouse and is the city’s new romantic spot to escape the hustle & bustle and drink and dine by candlelight.

The menu centres around different cavas by the glass and a wide selection of tapas inspired by the pintxos bars in San Sebastian. Perfect for Valentine’s, there’s also a selection of sharing boards, featuring Spanish cheeses & Iberian Cured Meats, and exclusively for Valentine’s, the restaurant will be serving a Valentine’s special dessert platter of heart shaped churros coated in sugar, served with strawberries and warm chocolate dipping sauce.

THE FOOD

After countless visits to the Basque region, founder Lee Sims together with the kitchen team has curated a menu starring some of their favourite Pinxtos (pronounced pin-chos meaning thorn or spike.) Guests can take their pick from an extensive selection. Signature dishes include the pork loin, pimiento padron and smoked paprika aioli on fresh baked flute bread and grilled Spanish black pudding topped with fried quails’ egg and piquillo peppers. Embracing Spain’s feasting and sharing culture, the Plato de Queso y Chacineria (Spanish Cheese & Chacineria tasting board) showcases a weekly changing selection of Spanish cow, goat and sheep cheeses, Iberian cured meats, quince paste, honey, guindilla peppers and Galician bread for those looking to drink and graze. To finish, desserts include Crema Catalana (a Spanish cinnamon crème brulee) Tarta de Santiago (Galacian almond tart) and Churros Con Chocolate. As with all The Port House restaurants, the menu is extensive, with a large proportion dedicated to vegetarian and vegan dishes and gluten free options where possible.

THE DRINKS

Cava, a sparkling wine from Spain produced predominantly in the Catalonian regions, makes a welcome addition to the existing and extensive selection of ports and wines for which The Port House restaurants are famed. Paving the way for Cava enthusiasts, the restaurant and bar showcases sparkling wines produced across the official Cava producing regions of Penedes, Rioja, Utiel-Requena, Ribera del Guadiana and Cariñena. For those after something a little different, red Vermut (vermouth) will be available on tap, whilst those looking for a non-alcoholic option, the 0% Freixenet will be available by the glass or bottle.

THE VIBE

The candlelight filled interiors have been inspired by the Spanish word Cava, which translates to cave or cellar, overseen by Jill L’Estrange Designs. The new restaurant and bar features exposed brickwork with an injection of warm, earthy tones from a palette rich in burgundy, teal and auburn shades finished with soft furnishings inspired by the Catalonia regions of Spain. At the top of the 3-storey building, a 35 seater private dining room is available for group bookings, private hire and Cava tastings.

The Port House director Lee Sim comments “We’re delighted to be opening our fifth location on Camden St. This amazingly diverse area is a fantastic opportunity to introduce our tapas, ports and wines to its audience of food and wine lovers, whilst shining a light on Cava, which we feel currently doesn’t get the attention it deserves.”

Open seven days a week from 12pm – 11.30pm Sunday through Thursday, and until 1am Fridays and Saturdays, the restaurant is available for bookings for groups of 8 or more and walk ins.
