The Georgian doors of this listed 18th century rural residence open up to a haven of four-star comfort, luxury, warm service, great food, and lots of lovely ways to relax.

We have two different but equally delightful restaurants: Fire & Salt and The Coach House Brasserie. We also have a number of private dining rooms decorated in a manner befitting their location, perfect for a special occasion. Afternoon Tea is available in our spacious, airy Atrium while Parterre, our gorgeous new garden terrace cocktail bar, serves carefully crafted cocktails and light bites.

Accommodation is in tastefully designed and relaxing guest rooms and self-catering lodges while the Estate is also home to an award-winning, divinely tranquil destination spa.

We are independently owned, and in lots of little ways – from the warmth of our team to our continual investment in The Estate – we like to think this shows.

    Fire & Salt Restaurant

Fire & Salt offers relaxed, fine dining in a sophisticated, contemporary space. Our menu features the finest meats, fish, dairy, vegetarian and vegan dishes for all tastes and appetites. Signature dishes include hand-picked beef, dry-aged for up to 36 days in Himalayan sea-salt – our name derives from the fire which seals and caramelises the steak and the salt which seasons it.

Every dish is thoughtfully designed and matched with tempting sauces, crisp fresh vegetables, and various potato sides.

Topping off a memorable meal, our desserts are skilfully constructed and beautifully decorated by our very talented pastry chef. They are almost too good to eat … but only if you have the willpower to resist.

Finally, our wine list is both varied and accessible. We have classic favourites mixed in with a few premium wines and one or two unusual finds for the buffs amongst us.

    The Coach House Brasserie

Instantly feel at home in the Coach House Brasserie with its booth-seating and roaring fire in Kitty’s Corner. Upstairs, The Loft offers a more refined brasserie-style experience, and when the sun shines, a new, spacious, outdoor terrace to the front of The Coach House seats 50 people in airy, heated comfort.

The menu at The Coach House includes both casual, modern dishes and traditional, hearty crowd pleasers.

Pair your meal with a drink from the full bar menu, a signature cocktail or select from a wine list designed to match and enhance the menu.

  • Welcome to The Kings Head / Fáilte go dtí The Kings Head

The Kings Head is a Medieval Pub steeped in History, with Live Music, Comedy and Craic over 3 floors, located in the heart of Galway’s Latin Quarter.

This landmark pub which is owned and run by the Grealish family for 30 years, serves a great pint of stout, great local-ingredient food, and features a fantastic whiskey bar and bistro.

BISTRO & BAR FOOD / BISTRO & BIA BEÁR

Our food philosophy is simple... If it's fresh, local and seasonal it goes on the menu!

Our specialities include ‘Wild Atlantic Seafood Chowder’, ‘Best Of Irish Board’, ‘Lobster & Chips’, ‘Slow Cooked Lamb Shank’, ‘Burren Smoked Salmon Board’, Great Local Seafood & Steaks.

As proud members of Good Food Ireland, we source fresh local ingredients from the best local suppliers and we change our menus seasonally to reflect this.

Our beef is always Irish, our smoked salmon is from the Burren Smokehouse, our fresh seafood and vegetables are as local as we can find them. Our soup, chowder and soda bread are made fresh in house every day, our sausages from Colleran’s Butchers down the street and the beer for our fish batter is from the Galway Hooker Brewery.

800 Years of History / 800 Bliain ag Fás

The Kings Head is a true piece of living history. The building itself dates back over 800 years to the 13th Century. Speed’s famous Pictorial Map of Galway, drawn in 1651, shows the home of the Mayor of Galway at 15 High Street as one of the tallest and most prominent buildings in Galway with the impressive 5 story Stubber’s Castle adjoining it to the rear. The building has several links to the 14 Tribes of Galway; above the two fireplaces you’ll find marriage stones from the Martin, Ffrench, Bodkin and Lynch families.

    PRIVATE EVENTS / IMEACHTA PRÍOBHÁIDEACHA

  • When we took over The Legal Eagle, we inherited some of the glorious features, and the building really spoke to us of old-fashioned pub-grub. That style of food is very much in the 'nose-to-tail' world of dining, but the more we thought about it, the more we realised that 'nose-to-tail' (use every bit and don't waste it!!) sits alongside a celebration of vegetables very comfortably! Both are a celebration of produce, and we hope to use some lesser celebrated vegetables and vegetable tops etc.

Lunch downstairs features a daily - changing roast-in-a-roll, Irish potato flatbreads (Think bacon, cabbage and parsley sauce. Think roasted squash, fig and honey. Think smoked haddock brandade, fennel and duck egg!) and meats from our wood oven, traditional meat platters (hay-smoked ham, corned mutton, haslet, pickles, sourdough etc) and fish platters.

Dinner downstairs adds roasted bone marrow, rump heart, cauliflower rarebit, Shropshire Blue soufflé and roasted-buttered turnip tops.

There are twenty craft beers on tap (with a rotating guest tap), and a small, but considered and decidedly un-trendy, classic cocktail list. We are crazy about beer, whiskey and gin but wine is where we started and it remains a driving force for us. We have over 200 wines on a stellar list written with love.

  • Fade Street was named such due to a local banker Joseph Fade, who left substantial sums of money in his will to some of the locals and families who lived on the street. While the flats are now gone, the stunning red-brick buildings still remain on the historical lane, which provided the backdrop for Ireland’s first reality TV show, named after the street.

It’s now a part of what locals call “the creative quarter”, with many new restaurants, coffee shops and quirky boutiques, residing in the 250 year old buildings. Fashionable, beautiful and full of character, Fade Street is one of the most diverse places in Dublin.

Great pub, great pints, great food, great craic. You truly capture a sense of the hidden Ireland when you accidentally stumble upon The Stag’s Head. Finding it is akin to discovering a rare treasure as it is concealed through a narrow passageway off Dame Street, although access can also be gained through Exchequer Street or Georges Street. When you enter inside this feeling of discovered booty is greatly intensified as a virtual paradise of culture and old world values confronts you. This is probably Dublin’s best preserved Victorian pub – and everything here is of authentic Victorian origin. Take time to look around and savour the sumptuously carved Victorian mahogany fittings, the mosaic marble tiled floors and granite tabletops.

Visiting the Stag’s Head is a wondrous experience whether you call when the premises is cosy, warm and glowing at night time, or in early morning when this is old repository of liquid culture is radiantly illuminated by wafts of sunlight filtering through the stained glass windows. The mahogany bar, capped with red Connemara marble, follows the classic Victorian architectural pattern, being long and punctuated by exquisite partitions that divide into private compartments or stalls.

    History

Though a tavern has existed on this site since the 1780’s, this premises first attained great fame in the 1830’s as ‘John Bull’s Albion Hotel and Tavern’. This was one of the most sought after premises of the age in close proximity to ‘Dublin’s Theatreland’ and the fashionable stores of Dame Street and College Green. A popular music hall business was developed on the site, a trend continued by proprietors Alica and Henry Murphy during the 1840’s. William Wormington succeeded them here in the 1860’s and James Kennedy took the reins in the 1880’s.

    Birth of the Stag’s Head

The Stag’s Head was the brainchild of Westmoreland merchant George Tyson who came to Ireland in the 1870’s and established a thriving Menswear and Haderdashery business in Grafton Street, from where he was appointed ‘outfitter and shirtmaker to the Lord Lieutenant’. He acquired this premises in the early 1890’s and commissioned leading architect J.M. McGloughlin of Pearse Street to build Dublin’s most advanced and distinctive Victorian pub – and the first in the Capital to enjoy electric light. The new creation opened its doors to the Dublin public in May 1894 amid majestic fanfare and distinguished patronage including the Lord Lieutenant and the most respected members of contemporary Victorian society. Tyson’s name is still to be seen on the large clock on the outside of the building. Another outstanding vestige of this era is the little parlour lounge discreetly situated behind the main bar; in former times this area served as a fashionable Victorian smoking room.

Don’t miss the great craic of one of Dublin’s most renowned Traditional Music sessions that can be enjoyed downstairs in the Stag’s Tail. Private Parties, Corporate functions and Group Bookings for food and drinks can be accommodated in either of our spacious and private lounges.

  • Tucker Reilly, although not explicitly mentioned in Ireland’s rich literary history, embodies the essence of all Dublin characters from times past. His name has become synonymous with mystery and intrigue, often used to conceal the true identity of a story’s protagonist and grant a sense of immunity while telling stories within the realm of pub circles. “Who shared that tale with you?” one might ask. The reply, “Ah, it was none other than Tucker Reilly.” Tell your own story of Tucker Reilly! For the history of the commoner is often lost. Because at the end of the day, anyone who has made their city a better, more enjoyable place to live in deserves to have their story told.

It has long been considered as his the favourite watering hole and for anglers fishing along the banks of the adjacent River Liffey.

    Anglers Rest History

The Strawberry Beds 1600AD. Previously this road was the main road to the West, on which Oliver Cromwell’s army marched in 1641. During the 1919-1922 period, Michael Collins would meet his Dublin Castle spies in this pub. In one of these meetings he was handed a list of names & a photograph of a group of enemy agents.

The Guinness family have long been associated with the Strawberry Beds area. It was famous for its strawberries, hence the name and also for its fresh water springs. If you listen you can hear the river Liffey flowing, which runs adjacent to the pub.

In 1840, it was known as Kellys Anglers Rest & in 1899 it was known as Doyles Anglers Rest. Since 1999 it has been Wrights Anglers Rest which people know and love today.
